Secrets of Romani Fortune Telling is the story of Romani fortune telling as a survival trade, as well as a how-to guide to popular divination for beginners and seasoned diviners alike from two generational fortune tellers. ‘Roma’ refers to the Indian diasporic ethnic group more commonly known by the slur/misnomer Gypsies, a word that many Roma reclaim proudly but it is not for others to use/ appropriate. (Not to be confused with Romanian.) You might have read that Gypsies are mysteriously linked to fortune telling, but these books don’t tell you the real story. Fortune telling, the labor of divination, is one of many survival trades that some Roma have practiced through centuries of persecution since leaving India. This book is for anyone wanting to have a more culturally aware and authentic relationship with tarot, palmistry, and tasseomancy (tea & coffee reading). We also share our stories growing up in this work, and perspectives from other Romani practitioners & creatives. 🧿
